American Taliban [2001]

John Phillip Walker Lindh is an American who was captured during the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan while fighting there for the Taliban. His capture made worldwide headlines. Born in Washington DC, he was a sickly introverted boy. About high school he converted to Islam and then went to Yemen and Pakistan to learn arabic and the islamic coran. Lindh in 2001 was serving in Afghanistan’s Taliban forces who were part of Afghan civil war against the Northern Alliance.

After 911 the American government demanded the give up Osma Bin Laden when the Taliban refused US forces entered the ongoing civil war on the side of the Northern Alliance. Lindh was part of a group of Taliban soldiers in Konduz region that surrendered to Northern Alliance forces in November 25, 2001. These same soldiers staged a violent uprising in their prison near Mazar-e Sharif. Lindh while wounded by a bullet in the thigh was one of a few survivors of the failed prison uprising and was taken into US custody on, December 2, 2001. While in US custody American Special Forces took hundreds of souvenir pictures with Lindh strapped down to a stretcher. This was one of those pictures.

I work with Middle eastern people and they all say terror is about the being lazy and not wanting to work to live and develop a normal life for themselves and that this sort of person is very easy to convert because of money and someone to telling him what to do and how to live his life, which is more comfortable than deciding for themselves, so it was interesting to see the comment above regards ’sickly child and outsider’
for me getting used to working with middle eastern people brings a very different learning curve on life and an oppertunity for us to understand each other rather than judge and fight, in the end its down to the person themselves where ever they come from and knowing how not to hurt your fellow man is harder than taking the easy route of being brain washed to do the wrong thing because of your own problems you do not wish to face!

WTF are you talking about Julie? If Islamists were attracked to money that the war on terrorism would have ended long long time ago. They do not mind living in caves, eating nothing but bread and water, facing death against a far more powerful ennemy than flinch for one second for money (primary value of the West).

They have something called honor and Westerners do not understand honor. Victory against Islamists is impossible because even death is part of their rewards. Now face Western values against Islamic values and you’ll understand why the West has no chance at all.

Michael,

I would have to agree. We as a nation are soft and have lost our values system. The vast majority of Americans would rather play Nintendo and get fat than pick up a rifle and defend the constitution. People call Al-Qaeda cowards for flying into the World Trade Center. They are far from it. Although I despise what they stand for you have to appreciate their level of conviction to God and their people. We lack such conviction and have a long fight ahead of us. Such as the Roman Empire we are rotting from within and the jackals are waiting for the lion to become weak so it can be defeated.

Flying a plane into a building is a strange way to show your “conviction” to god. America and western countries like ours, Australia, are becoming more greedy. We consume the vast majority of the world’s resources and dump a few unwanted bags of grain on third world countries to ease our conscience. Are we losing our “values,?” not really, remember the “good ol’ days” when women and blacks couldn’t vote, racism was the norm and minority groups were even moreseverely marginised?

Perhaps Ali can explain the references in the Koran to the division of loot.

This is an interesting photo I am not sure I had seen before.

Obviously for anti-war activists it’s useful as it plays on Christian iconography of Jesus on the cross (as did the infamous Abu Ghraib photos).

Personally I would put it alongside a photo of a child sobbing at a parent’s funeral post 9-11 or a child with their legs blown off in a market place by Al Queda suicide bomber.

In other words I have little sympathy for him given what he was prepared to do to innocent civilians and what Al Queda style Islam does to non-Muslims, women, children, gays and other victims of Sharia law.

Americans and Islamist extremist have no righteous reason for fighting. Both sides blame the other for the fighting. The douche on the left or the dick on the right.
Some people believe that killing or dieing for a country is what Americans need. If that is your mentality, well good luck in life, you’ll need it.
The world needs more tolerance, and stop being afraid of what “might” happen. Because we are all human beings and does anyone really want to kill someone just to live, NO! Although there are people who are overcome with fear or hate(spawned from the fear of western domination). These people want to kill or terrorize. I say let them have the middle east, because the aggressors will hault when they have their land back. If by chance the aggressors attack the USA then we will stop them in their tracks, but terrorist attacks or attacks on the US in general should not become an excuse for dominance over any region of the world. Unfortunately that’s exactly what the USA is notorious for.
A response to the people who have no sympathy for the man in the photo:
Have some damn sympathy for a brother. He is still one of us, he’s still human. Despite being a terrorist he still has family and should be shown the rights ever human deserves, even if the terrorist never showed the same compassion. Hopefully by being righteous and loving towards our enemies they’ll learn that they have nothing to fear from us. The soldiers who took this picture are cowards and are poor excuses for soldiers.

FUCK THE STATUS QUO! I FIGHT FOR THE PROGRESS OF HUMANITY NOT MY COUNTRY
