First photograph [1826]

Actually this is the earliest surviving photograph, c. 1826. It required an eight-hour exposure, which resulted in sunlight on both sides of the buildings.

Daguerre first got his daguerreotype to work in 1837. This was a photograph with no negative, much like the tin-types of Billy the Kid. Talbot figured out how to make a negative-positive photo around 1841. The problem was that they required very long exposure times, hence the photographs from the Cremean War by Roger Fenton and the Civil War by Matthew Brady which showed mostly dead people… They don’t move as much. A photograph of a living person in those days required a pole of some sort up your back and a hook around your neck to keep you still long enough. If you moved, there would be a blur, or “ghost image.” So yeah…. a little history. Sorry it’s so long…

Well the Mexican War was the first war photgraphed in the mid-1840s. Are there any photos from then on this site?
