Picture of cover of The Beatles album, Abbey Road, showing John, Ringo, Paul and George crossing the street. The view really is Abbey Road, London, NW8 looking north. The gates of the Abbey Road Studios are behind the white VW Beetle on the left, which, according to some proponents of the “Paul Is Dead” conspiracy theory, was parked there intentionally as a rebus.

  1. what r u talking about the album where they r looking over a balcony is please please me not hard days night

and your talking crap the reason for this photo is because its next to the studio where they recorded their music theres no metaphors of life in there the only thing about this pic is the obvious conspiracy that everyone knows about where mccartny died and the beatles left messages within the picture such as the license plate on the white beetle and a crack on pauls head and the ones that everyone else said. But this conspiracy is stupid even though the signs ARE there if you look at the picture mccartnys still alive today so its obviously a load of bollucks

  2. Why does the photo work, apart from there being four famous people in it?

    Some clues:

    1. The road, going on into the distance. Often a metaphor for life. But here the Beatles crossing it, making us stop – and think?

    2. The idea of the Shaman – the idea that the Shaman/artist has special esoteric knowledge that we don’t. This is suggested because this is not a naturalistic pose as you might get on other albums (leaning over the balcony on Hard Day’s Night).
Here we have the somewhat mysterious procession, with Paul shoeless, with John and Ringo in white and black reflecting the zebra crossing.

    3. Combined with the above we have this black and white idea. This album is a kind of judgement – a black and white thing. On the album there are phrases like “and in the end, the love you give is equal to the love you take”. It’s a kind of karma idea.

    4. The white Beetle whether intended or not is a kind of visual joke.

    5. The clear blue sky is important I think as a promise of simple enjoyment. No complex dark clouds.

    It all works very well.

  3. John – the priest
    Ringo – the undertaker
    Paul – the corpse
    George – the grave digger

Paul’s out of step – his cigarette is in the wrong hand

    - and the VW had Jimmy Hoffa in the trunk

  4. Muy buena pagina y quien no ha visto esta maravillosa fotografia, es de las mejores a nivel mundial por su contenido y simbolismo mismo que solo The Beatles pudieron tener.
